Short sales have been mentioned in earlier blogs, but with the current economic crisis that many people are facing, it is a more prevalent issue than ever. According to Zillow.com, during the last year’s fourth quarter, 1 in 9 homeowners, regardless of when they brought their home, had negative equity in their homes. The fact that purchasing a house is not supposed to have the same equity plan of purchasing a car (negative equity), this is definitely not a good thing.
I hate to tell anyone to lose money on their home, but I hate for homeowners to slide into foreclosure one month at a time. A short sale may be a creative way to stay up above the flooding water around you. Also, the impact to your credit is not as severe as that of a foreclosure. As a reminder, short sales are a basically an unofficial agreement with the bank to sell the property for less than you owe the bank for the property.
